Essential Academic Support and Enrichment for Preschool to 6th Grade Students

The OST Afterschool program at Guadalupe Center is essential for providing academic support and enrichment to Pre-K to 6th-grade students. Running for 36 weeks during the school year, the program operates from 3-5 PM on most days, with extended hours from 1:30-5 PM on Wednesdays. Our focus areas include academic support, enrichment opportunities, social-emotional learning, and family engagement.

What Does Our Afterschool Program Do?

The first hour of our Afterschool program is dedicated to academic and homework support, offering students one-on-one time with teachers to address any academic challenges. The remaining time is devoted to enrichment activities such as STEAM projects, music lessons, interest-based learning opportunities, and culturally informed instruction. We ensure students receive adequate one-on-one or small group time with teachers and staff to complete all homework on-site. We aim to bridge gaps in understanding and expand knowledge in areas where students show proficiency. Additionally, an essential component is the “super snack” provided before students go home, ensuring those without food at home are fed and can focus on learning. We also offer bus transportation for many afterschool students, recognizing that many parents work multiple part-time jobs and cannot pick up their children by 5:30 PM.

What are the Goals of The Afterschool Program?

The measurable academic goals of the Afterschool program are:

  1. To ensure each student regularly attends both the Charter School and the Afterschool program.
  2. To demonstrate academic growth for each participating student.
  3. To provide each student with support and enrichment opportunities they might not otherwise receive.
